Welcome to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre! Whether you’re a seasoned artist, or just dipping your toe in the creative water, we’re thrilled to have you join us for an unforgettable artistic experience. Here’s your comprehensive guide to navigating art programs at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre and enjoying your class to the fullest.
GETTING THERE
The Chilliwack Cultural Centre is conveniently located at 9201 Corbould Street in downtown Chilliwack. You can easily reach us by car, public transit, or even walking if you’re in the vicinity.
PARKING IS FREE
Ample parking is available around the Centre, including street parking and nearby parking lots. There’s also a designated drop-off area for convenient access.
ARRIVAL
Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled class time to allow for parking, locating your classroom, and getting set up for class before it starts.
WHAT TO WEAR
Art can sometimes be messy, despite our best efforts. It is recommended that you wear clothing you don’t mind being turned into “art clothes”. For safety reasons, we also recommend wearing close-toed shoes.
SUPPLIES
Most beginner-level classes include a set of student supplies that you may keep. Supplies for intermediate and advanced classes are not included in your class registration. If you will need to purchase supplies, a list is available by clicking the supply link on the weblisting for your class.
You can find the supplies listed to local art supply stores:
Julie Anne’s Art and Framing – Chilliwack
HOFA (House of Fine Art) – Abbotsford
You may also be able to find art supplies at your local Walmart or dollar store.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CLASS IS RUNNING?
You will receive a class confirmation email 2 days prior to your classes start date. This email will let you know if your class is running or not.
If it is running – excellent! We look forward to seeing you!
If it is not running – you will be contacted by a ticket agent from the Centre Box Office. Please make sure the contact email and phone number in your Centre account are up-to-date. The ticket agent can also process a credit to your account or refund to your card at this time. Patrons must come into the Centre to receive a cash refund, if applicable.
After your class has wrapped up you will receive a link to a course evaluation form. It is important to us that we know your thoughts about how we are doing, and how we can improve how our classes are presented and run. This is also a great opportunity to suggest future classes you would like to see!
CLAY
For Clay students, we recommend wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy, including wearing closed-toed shoes. All wheel classes are six classes long, over seven weeks. The second-to-last class is missed so that bisque pieces can be fired prior to the glazing week.
PHOTOGRAPHY
For photography classes, students are reminded that phone cameras are not suitable for these classes. Students should bring their camera manual and note taking materials. A Dropbox link will be shared after each week’s class with the slides from that week.
GLASS
For glass classes, it is recommended that you wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, including closed-toed shoes. Safety goggles and aprons are provided for glass bead classes.
OPEN STUDIOS
Open Studios are non-instructional studio time that is meant for students who have taken classes in either clay or glass and want to continue their art practice. We also run a Live Model Drawing Studio with draped/undraped models that is accessible for students with prior visual art experience. Information on all Open Studios can be found on our website. To encourage students to participate, beginner clay, glass, and most visual art classes come with a free Open Studio pass to try it out and see what it’s like.
FACILITIES
The Chilliwack Cultural Centre is equipped with modern facilities, including clean restrooms and wheelchair accessibility for patrons.
EXPLORING THE CENTRE
Take some time before or after your class to explore the Centre’s art gallery, showcasing local and regional artists. It’s a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the local arts scene.
PERFUMES & SCENTS
Please be considerate of fellow patrons who may have sensitivities or allergies to scented products and use such products with discretion.
