Join us for an evening of queer cinema, reflection, and community connection.
Featuring Burcu’s Angels and Pride & Prayer, these screenings delve into the intersections of faith, culture, and queer identity and the tensions that emerge when they collide. Through film, dialogue, and shared reflection, we’ll honour resilience and imagine new possibilities of healing and belonging. The program includes a warm welcome, introductions, screenings, and a facilitated panel conversation, closing with light refreshments and space for open dialogue. Proceeds support We Are Unbound, a queer-led, grassroots community group rooted in equity, diversity, and belonging in the Fraser Valley.
Burcu’s Angels tells the story of a beloved Vancouver vintage boutique that, for over thirty years, has been a sanctuary for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. As its matriarch, Burcu Özdemir, bids farewell to the store’s latest location, the film celebrates this space of clothing, memory, and chosen family through archival footage and Turkish music.
Pride & Prayer follows Panta on a deeply personal journey of reconciling faith and identity. As they seek connection within the Muslim community, the film explores the possibility of creating a space that is both devout and queer, illuminating tensions and the courage to imagine belonging against the odds.
