Join us as we explore the world of flowers using watercolour paint – a unique opportunity for students to explore new techniques in watercolour painting such as applying washes, wet on wet techniques, pouring, glazing and masking. The brilliant character of flowers will be examined. Subject matter will include flowers in nature and in still life.
Supply List
· A 2h pencil and eraser
· Watercolour brushes: #8 round, #2 round
Optional – a larger flat wash brush ie. ¾ “
· Watercolour Paints, at least student quality such as Van Gogh or Cotman, if possible, artist’s quality, ie. Winsor Newton or equivalent.
Small tubes of the following colours: Phthalo blue, Ultramarine blue, a light cool yellow (ie. lemon or cadmium yellow light), a medium warm yellow (ie. cadmium yellow middle, hansa yellow etc), a warm red (ie. cadmium red light), a magenta or primary red (ie. Quinacridone rose, or permanent rose)
Optional colours: burnt sienna, burnt umber, hooker’s green, paynes grey.
· A white plastic Watercolour palette
· Small bowls for mixing paint
· Assorted sponges
· A small pad of light WC paper, ie. Canson 9X12 for exercises and techniques
· Watercolour paper ie, 1 sheet Arches 140 lb cold pressed 22 X 30, cut in two. ( This will not be needed for the first class)
· Optional: a board (16 X 20” or 18 X 24”)
