The Fraser Valley Potters Guild presents “Clay 2024, Passionate about Clay!” You can expect to be dazzled by a wide range of styles of work from sculpture, slap, wheel thrown, and coiled work with firing techniques that include wood, soda, smoke, gas and electric firings.
Fraser Valley Potters Guild – Biography and Background
The Fraser Valley Potters Guild Association (FVPGA) is a nonprofit association that was founded in 1975 by the alumni of the ceramics department of Douglas College, Surrey Campus. The founding objectives were to support ongoing camaraderie, learning and professional development in the field of ceramics.
In 1981 the newly built campus became Kwantlen College, and was later designated a university college in 1995, transitioning to Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) in 2008. The FVPGA has continued its close association with KPU.
To support our mandate, learning opportunities are made available to members through regular artist talks and demonstrations at meetings as well as workshops with professional ceramics practitioners. In addition, members can participate in specialized firings such as Raku, soda, wood and sawdust firings.
Artist Statement
Annually we have a Juried Exhibition in rotating communities. This promotes excellence in the art and craft of ceramics and encourages members to explore new areas of their practice and develop and refine contemporary work for show submission.
The work can include sculpture, functional pottery, wall art and personal adornment. The Juror selects the work for the show as well as recipients for Awards in Open and Student Categories.
It’s all about CLAY and we are PASSIONATE about our work and love sharing it with others.
