Public Statement re: COVID-19

Update! – July 10, 2020

On March 16th 2020 the province of British Columbia banned all gatherings of 50 or more people for the immediate future. Also on March 16th 2020 the City of Chilliwack announced the temporary closing of the Chilliwack’s recreation facilities.

On May 25th we received authorization to begin our Phase 2 reopening of the Cultural Centre.  While this phase will start slowly, it will unfortunately not include the reopening of either the HUB International Theatre or the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre for performances.

Summer Kids’ Art Camps

We are very sorry, but we are not able to move forward with our Summer Kids’ Art Camps this summer.

Arts & Crafts Classes

We are offering a limited number of Adult Arts & Crafts classes over the summer.  These classes will be promoted through our website and our facebook page.  Classes will be moved from our regular Arts & Crafts classrooms into the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre so that we can observe strict social distancing.  All class participants will be required to wear face coverings (we will lend you a non-medical cloth mask if you do not have your own).  Face coverings must fully cover the mouth and nose.

Open Studios

The Clay Open Studio has reopened.  For the time being, this open studio will no longer be available on a drop in basis.  Participants will have to register with the box office in order to ensure that the number of attendees is limited to those that are able to effect strict social distancing.  Participants will be required to wear face coverings at all times (we will lend you a non-medical cloth mask if you do not have your own).  Face coverings must fully cover the mouth and nose.   Participants will be limited to six at a time (including the technician when they are in).  We will have up to four spaces for those wishing to use a pottery wheel, and up to two space at the hand-building table.  Registration will open on a rolling basis four days prior to the available day.  The Open Studio will be available from 10am to 2pm Monday to Friday (with the exception of holidays). Participants will not be able to sign up for more than two sessions in a given week.

All other Open Studio programs are cancelled for the time being.

O’Connor Group Art Gallery

The O’Connor Group Art Gallery has reopened with a spectacular exhibition of large scale work by Chris Woods.  The exhibition is titled Sandstorm and explores the first three Star Wars movies but from the view of the Empire.  Viewers will be limited to five at any given time. Patrons will be required to wear face coverings at all times (we will lend you a non-medical cloth mask if you do not have your own). Face coverings must fully cover the mouth and nose.  Patrons will also be required to sign in upon arrival with both their name and phone number.  This information is being gathered solely to assist Fraser Health in contract tracing.
