Has your favourite sweater developed a hole? Do you need to make a piece of clothing larger or smaller?

Instead of getting rid of a piece of clothing that is damaged, or the wrong length or size, why not fixit? Local fibre artist mavens Mellissa Kimberley and Emily Hamel will help you learn how to repair common issues such as: holes in knitwear, rips in fabric, darning holes in socks, and taking in or letting out clothing to better fit the way you want. Don’t throw it out – fixit!

Must bring items that are damaged in the following ways: tears, rips, holes OR pieces that need hemming or letting out.

Instructor(s):

Emily Hamel
Mostly self-taught, Emily has been sewing off and on since she was 12 years old, but started seriously applying herself to the craft about 10 years ago, and has since then designed and constructed costumes for cosplay, historical dress reenactment, and theatre productions. In 2019 she won Best Costume Design at the Theatre BC’s Fraser Valley Zone Festival for her designs for Chickens: The Musical. Her prized sewing possessions are sewing machines that have been passed on from both her grandmothers, plus a treadle powered Singer from the early 1900’s that she recently acquired from her godmother and godfather.
