SUMMARY:Narrow Works and 12 Turners' Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Price:\nFree admission \nDate and Time:\nExhibit – June 25 to July 26\, 2025 \nGallery Hours: Wednesday to Saturday Noon to 5:00 pm \nOpening Reception on June 28\, 2025\, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm \n\n\n\nThe “12 Turners” exhibition in the Odlum Brown Art Gallery at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre showcases work created by twelve of the sixty-eight members of the Fraser Valley Woodturners Guild. All with different styles and years of experience\, so the exhibition is quite eclectic. As may be expected from items turned on lathes\, there are a number of circular items such as bowls\, plates and hollow form vases\, but there are also lathe-formed items such as a hedgehog toothpick holder\, a three-cornered jewelry box with a ring post on the lid\, a bird family and a variety of segmental and off-centre ornamental pieces. Much of our wood is locally-sourced from felled trees\, pruning’s and driftwood. In addition to the natural grain pattens\, items may have embellishments by means of colors or by using texturing tools. On wide-grained woods such as Pine\, sandblasting can be used to remove the softer part of growth rings. As to forms\, these may depend on the envisaged usage such as salad and fruit bowls or dishes\, to ornamental such as earrings and pendants\, or decorative such as segmented vases. Then there is the possibility of combining epoxy as a binder for wood with cavities or punky areas. Finishings can be polishes\, waxes or left plain. The making of turned wood items is truly creative and we hope that our exhibition will serve to show some of the myriad possibilities using a wide variety of woods and finishes. \nThe Fibre Art Network (FAN) is a co-operative of self-defined artists based in Western Canada. The group is committed to promoting fibre as an art form and each other as artists. Two of their travelling exhibits titled\, ‘Narrow Works’ & ‘I AM’ will be presented. ‘Narrow Works’ allowed each artist to explore a theme of their choosing\, using their skill\, creativity\, and techniques to create a one-of-a-kind piece\, while working within the restrictive size\, orientation\, and finishing of the canvas. ‘I AM…’ serves as a powerful foundation for exploring identity\, self-expression\, and personal narrative. Each artist’s interpretation of ‘I AM…’ offers a unique perspective\, making for a diverse and thought-provoking exhibit. \n\n\n  \nMedia\nChilliwack Visual Artists Association website \nCVAA Facebook \n

SUMMARY:Pierre Bensusan - One Guitar\, One Voice - 50th Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:Price:\n$50.00 – All Seats\n$44.75 – Early Bird\, All Seats  \nDate and Time:\nJuly 4\, 2025 – 8:00 pm \n  \n\n  \nIf World Music means the fusion of traditional\, contemporary\, jazz\, classical and pop music\, then Bensusan is one of the most eloquent World Music musicians of our time.\nA pianist in his beginnings then self-taught on the guitar\, the originality of his style makes him one of today’s greatest guitarists and composers for the instrument. Also called “The Prince of DADGAD”\, the Rose d’Or of the Montreux Festival\, elected Best Guitarist of World Music by the readers of Guitar Player Magazine! His triple album “Encore” won the Grand Prix of the Independent Music Awards in the category Best Live Album… Since his first performances in 1974 in France\, the guitarist has sold half a million albums and given thousands of concerts around the globe\, both solo and through numerous collaborations. \nPierre Bensusan is an adventurer of unusual lands. His almost “sacred” music is an intimate and orchestral hymn\, a solo crossing on a multi-shell Lowden guitar subjected to the natural elements with sound molecules and finger pulp on an ebony fingerboard for open tuning – an unique and transparent technique\, under the fingers of an adventurous pilgrim. \n“Listening to Pierre’s music is rejuvenating. Beside his extraordinary touch and tone\, the notes and melody appeal directly to the tender side of our human nature” \nSteve Vai  \n  \n“This is beautiful… Pierre is one of the GREATS!!!” \nTommy Emmanuel Cgp.  \n  \nWith only his steel-string-acoustic guitar – and sometimes his rich\, affecting voice – Mr Bensusan can disassemble your heart and hand it back to you restored and renewed. As he did to mine tonight. A true giant.” \nJames Volpe Rotondi (former senior editor at Guitar Player Magazine)  \n  \nPierre Bensusan website\nPierre Bensusan Facebook\nPierre Bensusan Instagram \n
