On Friday, November 22, 2024 The Chilliwack Progress & chillTV, together with support from the Chilliwack Cultural Centre are proud to bring you the inaugural, preeminent arts awards show in Chilliwack, “The Chillies Awards”!
Recognizing our city’s greatest artistic achievers as chosen by YOU!
Beginning September 6th, 2024 and for 3 weeks a city-wide online poll will be circulated soliciting nominations for your favourite artist, in 11 key categories.
The top nominees will then be presented for city-wide voting in October 2024.
The nominees will then be announced via livestream at the beginning of November, adding to the anticipation and excitement for the Nov. 22 program.
The categories for 2024 are:
- Best Dramatic Performance: Recognizing outstanding contributions in the areas of dramatic theatre by a company, or individual performance.
- Best Comedic or Musical Performance: Recognizing outstanding contributions in the areas of Dance, Comedy or Musical, by a company, or individual performance.
- Film or Video Production of the Year: Acknowledging exceptional achievements in the field of film or video production, including fiction and non-fiction. Individual or group.
- Visual Arts Excellence: Recognizing individuals or organizations that have demonstrated exceptional skill, creativity, and innovation in the field of visual arts. Individual or group ie, Painting, drawing, graphic design, carving, sculpting, animation, etc.
- Musician of the Year: Recognizing outstanding musicians who have exceled in their respective genres, demonstrating creativity, skill, artistry, and contributions to the music industry. Individual or group.
- Top Writer: Honoring excellence in a fictional or non-fictional work.
Authors, poets, playwrights who have produced an exceptional work. Individual or writing team.
- Emerging Artist of the Year: Honoring talented and promising artists at the early stages of their careers and have shown significant potential in their chosen artistic discipline, in any artistic category. Individual or group.
- Arts Education Champion Award: Recognizing individuals, schools, or organizations that have made notable efforts to promote and advance arts education, emphasizing the importance of creativity and artistic expression in learning. Individual or group.
- Cultural Achievement Award: Recognizing efforts to preserve and promote cultural heritage, or promote the broadening of cultural traditions through artistic endeavors, ie art, music, comedy, drama, dance, traditional crafts, or storytelling. Individual or group.
- Public Art of the Year: Celebrating outstanding public art installations, and murals that enhance public spaces, engage communities, and contribute to Chilliwack’s cultural vibrancy.
- Uber-Achiever Award: Celebrating individuals or groups who have made substantial contributions to the arts over their lifetime through their own creative, artistic and performance achievements, and their advocacy of artists and the arts.
On Friday, November 22, 2024, the Chilliwack Cultural Centre will host The 2024 Chillies to a live audience! Four nominees in each of the 11 categories will be recognized and the winners announced that evening. The evening will be resplendent with entertainment mixed with the awards presentations. The red carpet affair begins at 6:30 pm with the show beginning 7:30.
There will be music, comedy and amazing entertainment that you would expect from a red carpet two-hour awards show. A wonderful silent auction and a captivating ‘after party’ at Vineyard Centre will raise funds for the newly created,
“The Chillies Arts Scholarship Fund”.
