Come and have fun splashing paint. This class will be an opportunity to explore new skills and techniques in watercolour. We will look at graded washes, wet on wet technique, pouring to mix colours, glazing and masking. Stretching paper will also be demonstrated. Students should have done a beginning watercolour course or have some knowledge of watercolour. Subject matter will include nature and flowers.

Supply List (click to expand)

• A 2h pencil and eraser
• Watercolour brushes: #8 round, and #2 round
Optional – a larger flat wash brush ie. ¾ “
• Watercolour Paints, at least student quality such as Van Gogh or Cotman, if possible, artist’s quality, ie. Winsor Newton or equivalent.
Small tubes of the following colours:
Pthalo blue
Ultramarine blue
A light, cool yellow (ie. lemon or cadmium yellow light)
A medium, warm yellow (ie. cadmium yellow middle, hansa yellow etc.)
A warm red (ie. cadmium red light)
A magenta or primary red (ie. Quinacridone rose, or permanent rose)
Optional colours: burnt sienna, burnt umber, paynes grey.
• A white plastic Watercolour palette
• Small bowls for mixing paint
• Assorted sponges
• A small pad of light WC paper, ie. Canson 9X12 for exercises and techniques
• Watercolour paper ie, 2 sheets Arches 140 lb cold pressed 22 X 30
( These will not be needed for the first class)
• Students will make a board for stretching paper with instructor’s guidance.
