Bach, Bernstein, Britten, Bergmann and much more! Join cellist Beth Root-Sandvoss as she performs a repertoire demonstrating the lyrical and romantic as well as the dramatic and rhythmical qualities of the instrument.

Cellicious offers a wonderful array of cello repertoire that demonstrates the lyrical and romantic as well as the dramatic and rhythmical qualities of the instrument. From Bach to Bernstein, from Britten to Bergmann, and so much more, Cellicious will be a captivating performance that shows you the combined charms of the cello and piano.

Marcel and Elizabeth Bergmann have performed their piano concerts internationally throughout North America and Europe, have made several recordings for CBC Radio and are the founding members of the International Piano Quartet. The married couple met at Hochschule für Musik und Theater, a music university in Hannover, Germany. The two studied separately but grew into partners, establishing a new program of study for duo piano at their school. Elizabeth and Marcel have an extraordinary list of triumphs, including first prize at the International Music Competition in Caltanissetta, Italy and were honoured at The 4th Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition.

For this fantastic morning performance, the duo will be joined by cellist Beth Root Sandvoss who has had a notably varied career as a recitalist, chamber musician and pedagogue. Beth’s early professional activities took her to Hong Kong, where she became a member of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the Victoria String Quartet, performing throughout Asia. After completing undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison with cellist Parry Karp, Beth finished graduate work at the Cleveland Institute of Music as well as further studies in San Francisco. Beth settled in Calgary, Alberta where she enjoys an active performance career in Canada and abroad. Beth has recorded six commercial CDs and has premiered more than 50 new works for solo cello, cello/piano and chamber ensemble.

Captivating classical musicianship, intimate connection and atmosphere, and all topped off with delicious complimentary refreshments – what better way could there be to start the day?

With complimentary freshly brewed coffee, tea, and sumptuous baked treats, there could be no better way to begin your morning than with the Bergmann Duo and their special guests.
