For many visual artists, it is not a matter of if you can make something, it is a matter of how. I truly believe that "if there is a will there is a way" and I strive to inspire my students to have the confidence to tackle any project.
I graduated from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 2002 with a Bachelors degree in Visual Art. My focus was dominated by ceramics because I found that it encompassed the widest range of artistic expression. I could sculpt, carve, screen print and paint without changing mediums. I went on to work at the Gallery of BC Ceramics, where I was inspired by all the incredible talent and happily spent my pay checks on hoards of beautiful pieces. I continue to collect ceramics in my travels but as I learned on a flight home from Australia, fourteen hours is a long time to hold a three-tiered cake plate in your lap.
Adult Class: Want to try a ceramics class but can't commit to a full semester? This class is for you!
Three classes over three weeks will give you an introduction to ceramics and see you through all stages of creating small objects in wet clay. Week one will be creating small objects in wet clay, week two will be working with dry and bisqued clay, and week three will be focused on glazing and surface techniques. A great class to take if you are interested in participating in open studios or self-directed projects.
